Greetings!

Welcome To

Psalt of the Earth

Makers and purveyors of wondrous creations

No, the title is not a typo. Our primary products are harps of the psalterium family. Their strings  typically emerge from the frame of the instrument, run parallel to the soundboard (crossing one or more bridges), and anchor to tuning pegs at the other end of the frame.  Within that relatively wide description, there are a lot of variations. Some have soundboxes, others derive their tones from the resonant qualities of the woods and use the player's body as a personal sounding chamber.

In addition, we have a variety of wooden percussion instruments.

We have shakers and clappersticks, all of rescued hardwoods.

There are some non-wooden rattley bits in most of the shakers, but we're not counting that.

We also have all-wooden drums,

which we call Glastonbury Drums

(for reasons we shall discuss on the appropriate page).

Our instruments have certain common characteristics.

• They are from "natural woods" (no plywood), and, in specific, from rescued, recycled, or repurposed wood.

• Our finishes are lead-free and contain no animal-sourced components.

•  Each item is, to some measure, unique. Whether that's a matter of artistic orientation or simply an inability to stick to a pattern is a matter of discussion, but we like to think of it as a feature.
